Recording a new album

With 30 new songs whittled down to a pool of 15 \’contenders\’, I\’ve started to record a 10 song album. In early July I kicked it off, recording 3 tunes with producer, Russell Broom, in Calgary AB. BIG THANKS to my auntie Joyce and uncle Murray for letting me stay with them in Calgary! We did a lot of the work at Russell\’s studio in the city, and laid down the grand piano and drum tracks at a gorgeous studio (OCL) out in the countryside. The sound is \”roots/folk\” and it\’s the most rootsy recording I\’ve ever made. Related to this—a strange part of moving through the grieving process of my mom dying in February is that I was flooded with so many wonderful and vivid memories. And some of the memories were music memories – old folk types of songs (Mom was a great piano player). I attribute the sound coming out of me in the recording, to her – it\’s hard to explain, but it\’s a wonderful result of her influence. I\’m really liking what Russell and I have done so far and I know mom would love it too.
I\’ll be recording the remaining 7 tunes by Sept. Some singles will be released over the winter, and then the FULL ALBUM LAUNCH will be in the spring. Thanks everyone for commenting on the live versions of tunes I\’ve posted on Facebook to help me pick which ones to record!
